SOUTHPORT RUN 8th June 2008

Well, today the sun god shone on us and brought with it a pretty good turn out. Twelve bikes [and riders and two pillions] turned up at the Greyhound and set off for Southport. Brian`s route took us over Belmont, through Abbey Village and onto the dual carriageway that leads to Southport seafront with no bother but halfway up that road we hit the scourge of warm dry days  ROAD RESURFACING  and traffic jams. Luckily with a bit of cheeky filtering we made our way to the front of the queue but the cars at the back must have been stuck for at least half an hour, probably full of kids wanting to get onto the beach.

By this time I could have done with a dip in the sea myself, but we made our way to the Cruisers headquarters and after going through an entry found ourselves in a large grass field behind the pub, so I settled on a cold drink with ICE.

The field was split into two, with half for bike parking, and display, and half for seating and stalls. A BBQ was being done in an enclosed outhouse at the back, which you couldn`t see into for the smoke [bad idea on a hot day] but the burgers that came out were quite good. Gill decided instead on a very large ice cream. A band was setting up for live music but as some of us were going to Lymm to see another show we didn`t stay to hear them.

Leaving some members with the cruisers, Bob led seven bikes for a quick blast on the motorway back to Lymm where we caught the end of the VJMC show, and the presentation, and had another cold drink. Sun still shining we returned home and watched the Moto GP.

I think we all enjoyed the day, with enough opportunity to ride, stop for a drink, and have a chat in equal measure, I know we did, and by the way, Andy [for once, being fit and the day being dry ] took the opportunity to do the Cannonball run which should be announced at next meeting.

See you there
