[Home]. RIDE TO SETTLE 13-4-08
Once again the weather forecast was bad with threatened heavy showers but with the run route planned we arrived at the Toby Carvery at 9 45 to find Brian waiting for us. By 10 05 and with dark skies and no one else showing up we decided to call it off and go to Rivvie for breakfast. As we were pulling off the car park Bob and Glenys arrived so we set off for the barn. Half way there the skies lightened and with the usual "I`m enjoying riding my bike " feeling we decided to do the run anyway. Picking up the route over Belmont we carried on to Gisburn where the roads were dry and the sun came out. We stopped at Settle for breakfast and a wander round the farmers market then carried on past Devils Bridge to Redwell .We asked about a camping weekend there and was told although there was work going on we were welcome but we had to let him know. [There is a picture of the camping field in pix] .With the sun still out and not yet ready to come home we stopped at Guys tavern for a drink and found a display of birds of prey which you were allowed to handle. Glenys couldn`t resist the barn owl and it sat on her hand while she stroked it. I`m glad now we didn`t cancel the run because it turned out to be a pleasant, laid back and enjoyable day out and though we got caught in a couple of showers in the main it wasn`t cold and we did see quite a lot of sunshine. |
