[Home]. Manley Mere Bike Meet 29th April 2010
This was the first bike meet of the year at Manley Mere surfing club, they are held on the last Wednesday evening of every month throughout the summer, so we thought we would go and check it out. At 6-05pm and with a shower threatening and a no show by anyone else (as it was short notice we didn’t expect much of a turn out and it was too early for some people to get home from work and meet us) we set off down the M6. Luckily the rain stopped and we ran into dry roads for the rest of the journey. On arrival at Manley Mere we found the gate locked (someone had forgotten to open it) but a quick phone call to the number on the entrance board and a man arrived on a bicycle to let us in. We rode down the drive and the sight of the mere opened in front of us, it is a really lovely place. As we parked up and were looking around, Bob and Glenys arrived, they had been caught up in traffic getting to Toby and finding us already gone had followed us down. The facilities here are brilliant, with large outdoor and indoor seating areas. The restaurant sells food and drinks and (we were told) has a bbq going in busy evenings in summer, all set in beautiful scenery. We will definitely be going again (weather permitting) the rest of the year but because of the traffic problems at 6-00pm, and with lighter nights coming I think we will leave at 6-30pm and perhaps then it will be possible for more people to join us.
