[Home]. Plank Run 2010 March 21st 2010 This years runs season kicked off in great form as 17 bikes and riders gathered at Lane Head, in glorious sunshine, to follow Steve for this years Plank Run. We had a couple of new ( first time on runs) riders with us and a returnee member (resplendent on his new Goldwing, which just happens to be silver) as well as a couple of friends from Hindley club. Our destination was the railway cafe at Grindleford and the route was through Macclesfield and over the Cat and Fiddle pass. With the established members working well on the second man rule and being shepherded successfully by Charlie from the back of the group, we all arrived together at the pub on top of the pass for our first stop. Even though there was still big patches of snow on the hills, the sun was shining and it was quite warm and when we got to the pub car park there was lots of policemen on motorbikes coming and going, no doubt practicing for the upcoming year. On leaving the pub we were joined by two more riders who were looking for a ride-out and had been chatting to Charlie so 19 bikes arrived at Grindleford for brekkie and the quiz. Return journey was via the Ladybower reservoir and over the scenic Snake Pass where we stopped for a quick drink and ended the run. Some then hit the motorway whilst others took the road to Glossop to make their own way home. I think Steve did a great job of keeping everyone together as 19 bikes mixed with new riders and roundabouts and traffic lights takes some doing. The police presence and the fifty mph limits everywhere deterred people from getting a move on to catch up. So well done to him and to Charlie for not losing anyone from the back and to the established members for taking over when the second man rule broke down a couple of times. It was a brilliant day and we all really enjoyed it, so nice to get out in the sun and ride, here's hoping for more of the same.
