Ride Out to Lake Vrynwy 5th June 2011 Sunday morning dawned wet and grey so it was inevitable that the numbers attending would be low, but it wasn't expected that no-one would turn up. Anyway Me&G waited until five past ten and when still no-one had turned up we set off towards the M6. We got as far as Thelwall when, surprise surprise, it stopped raining and the sky went a bit brighter. We headed south down the A49 when at Weaverham we hit the back of the queue trying to get into Oulton Park for the Touring car races. A bit of judicious filtering saw us overtake everything in sight until we got to Cotebrook when all the traffic disappeared. It was open roads then to Ridley where we turned right to the A41 truck stop for a bit of a break. It was then off down to Malpas, Overton, Ellesmere, Whittington and Oswestry and Llynclys where we turned right onto the B roads to get us to the lake side where we parked up and had a meal then a walk around. Suitably fed and watered it was then off around the lake. Eleven miles later we were back where we started and started off on the homeward journey. Different route this time we took to the woods and mountains eventually ending up in Corwen but not before taking in some spectacular scenery and views. At Corwen we headed off down the A5 and pulled off at the railway station at Carrog for a break. It was then off through Llangollen to the A483 for fuel. Did you know that there are no fuel stations in Llangollen? You have to go to Ruabon or Chirk, remember that. The journey from there was uneventful. We pulled off the Chester by-pass camd went through Mickle Trafford, Dunham on the Hill, Helsby and Frodsham. When we got on the M56 at Daresbury the traffic was more or less at a standstill so it was off at the first opportunity and through Warrington then home. Pity no-one else joined us but there you go. We did 200 miles, didn't get wet and saw some great sights. |
