Rider Assessment Course

27th February 1010

The opportunity was offered for a FREE rider assessment course and the offer was taken up by Dave Leatherbarrow, Steve Hook, Don Fitzpatrick  from Hindley MCC, myself and Mark Watson.

We met at 9am on a cold dry day in February. Those that turned up to have a go all wondered why. It was sunny but cold. Colder than Moscow..

Dave and Steve went off 1st we went in to the shop to have a look at what we would spend our money on if we won the lotto and after one hour we were getting a bit worried!!!!
They came round the corner with big smiles on their faces, so happy that it was all over.

Then came the marks out of 10 for the two accused.  Steve, as an excellent all weather rider, got 10/10 not one single black mark against him now he has the proof that the boy can ride, so well done to you.

Dave was very positive about the run and enjoyed the experience, the snow on the hill made him realise just how cold it was, hot brew for those two. Then we three went out.

Boy as time went on I too realised just how cold it was, even with all the expensive gear we have got, it was COLD

We went up St Peters Way, off at Kearsley roundabout through to Swinton and then up to Salford, round the hills to Bury, up Scout Road and the snow in them thar' hills. Mark nearly got wiped out by VW Golf as we headed home and the warmth of a brew at Doug Hackings motorbike shop.
The roads were wet and very shitty and full of pot holes. It was hard going.

We four  have the same problem just not enough observation. Well it was cold, that's my excuse. All I wanted was my hot water bottle and to be back in bed.

I say whose idea was this........oooooh mine

So, what was the point of the outing.

No matter how long you have been riding, or how good or bad you think you are, or how many bad habits you have, you can never become complacent when riding a motorbike

We all enjoyed the event and would do it again. maybe when its a bit warmer.

Many thanks to Mike "The Bike" Williams for his time and support for free, along with the advice that will make us better bikers.
