Ride Out To Rowrah 4th May 2008

or

                                                                                                          WET WET WET

No not the band but us . Why does it always pick Sunday to rain.???.Nevertheless seven bikes set out on the ride to Rowrah in Cumbria hoping it would clear up.

There was very little let up in the rain as we made our way north to the first stop at Glasson Dock. Here some people discovered how not waterproof their waterproofs were. Learning from last week I had covered my gloves with the free plastic ones you can pick up at petrol stations [a tip I had often read about] and it worked well.

At the Winderemere turn off, and due to an error in counting bike lights behind us, we found we were one man short and despite Ste going back and phoning him we never found him so we think he just went home.

We entered Windermere and through to Ambleside in sunshine and the town was packed with people and nose to tail traffic but once clear we had a good run on the lakeside road the A591 and onto the A66 to Cockermouth. Stayed dryish until we reached the Rowrah circuit where we exchanged the wet weather for windy weather, it must have its own wind turbine in that quarry.

Here we met up with our club members who had camped over to support Joe and he had managed to place third in his first race on an unfamiliar bike and was due to race again later on.

After having dinner and a welcome hot drink in the now very good and reasonably priced cafe area we went for a chat with the club members and watched some racing.

On the return journey home at 4-00 ish we were joined by Mark and Yvonne [ they had camped ] and sure enough once we cleared Rowrah and its wind we ran slap bang into the rain again that only stopped when we hit the M6 at Lancaster.

On the whole we enjoyed the day because, despite the rain, it was friendly and fun and the ride on the lakeside road was worth it. So thanx to Steve for taking it, and to some of Hindley club for turning out and lets just hope for better weather from now on.
