2008 Season

 Update

Just a few lines to let you know what happening with the club teams this year.

The sidecar series has been put on hold, so its left to the solos which doesn’t look too good as well. Due to personal injury, lack of finance and other more pressing projects, it’s down to two teams:- Tris and Simon ;  Team Old Peculiar ; Class Two

Joe Heywood, Doug Martin, John Marsh ; Team Tarmac Turkeys, Class Three

The series has been taken over by Fab-racing.

This year I’ve committed myself to a full season racing with a different team, the Tarmac Turkeys. I was going to take a season off but was approached by Doug to do the first meeting of the year racing on a MBX chassis with RS Honda swing arm and forks wheels, AR tank, Derbi Senda 50 engine, creation. Who could say no?

CLASS 3 – SUPERSPORT

· Road based, manual clutch gearbox engines only.

· Water-cooled 2 strokes up to a maximum engine capacity of 55cc.

· 2 Stroke maximum carburettor size is restricted to 21mm.

· Two valve single cylinder 4 strokes up to a maximum engine capacity of 128cc.

· 4 stroke engines must have a 22mm diameter inlet restrictor fitted between the carburettor and the cylinder

head if the carburettor size is more than 22mm diameter.

· Any production road based chassis may be used with a minimum wheel diameter of 15 inches.

The following modifications are permitted: -

1) The frame may be braced.

2) The suspension may be changed.

3) The wheel / rim sizes may be changed to accommodate better tyres. Minimum 15 inch wheel diameter

rule still applies.

IN ADDITION:

This class will also include ‘Twist & Go’ Air-cooled 2 stroke Scooters up to 55cc and Air-cooled 4 stroke

Scooters up to 128cc. No maximum carburettor size. The overall appearance of a scooter, i.e. step through

with original small wheels, must be retained

Both John and Doug have extensive electrical and mechanical engineering knowledge between them. John offered to overhaul the chassis, which literally meant top to bottom, while Doug would prepare the engines. This is only the tip of the iceberg what they have done. This you are use to in the world of back street racers, but it shows how things are moving on when people like Doug, to my amazement built his own DYNO. Which works” Yeah I had the idea for a while, collected the bits over the years, wrote a program to show torque rpm bhp. Bla bla”. Beats Chicken chasers test runs on local industrial estates. I said how do you find the time? He says don’t turn the telly on. Good tip. Tried it and I’m writing this article. All I have to do is provide accommodation for teammates and ride the bike. I have also committed myself to a full season, more riders , cheaper racing (in theory?)

Looking forward to it keep you Posted.
